Founded by Anatoly Emelianov. The premiere performance of Russian Modern Ballet – “Emelianov Dance Company” took place on 12 August 2002. Their first ballet on the day of the premiere of the theatre was the ballet “Cross Winds” and it has been seen by all the Moscow intelligentsia, among whom were such outstanding figures of Russian culture, as Mikhail Lavrosky (famous USSR and Russian choreographer and ballet master), Andrey Voznesensky (famous Russian poet, novelist, painter, architect), Iosif Rayhelgauz (artistic director of Theatre “School of Modern Drama”), Eleonora Vlasova (famous ex-prima ballerina of Moscow Music Theatre, Olga Lepeshinskaya (famous Soviet Union ballerina, teacher). All the central Moscow newspapers started to write about this new ballet company after this first historic presentation.

In 2017, the theater celebrated its 15th Anniversary! During this period, the company created more than 20 modern ballets. The ballets were created by choreographer Anatoly Emelianov, whose name is already mentioned on the courses of ballet history in the higher level education universities of Russia.

For the first time in history a Russian Ballet toured East Africa, Emelianov Dance Company visited countries such as Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya. The dancers performed on specially built stages near Victoria Falls.  For the first time in the history of Zambia, the company received a long standing ovation from the audience which included the president of the country and the ambassador to Russia. After the performance the dancers leapt into Victoria Falls, to cool off!!

Each year, the company gives at least 50 performances from its classical and contemporary repertoire on the best stages in Europe visiting countries such as Italy, France, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Greece. The theater has also represented its art in Israel, the Canary Islands, China, Korea, Japan; Sri Lanka, where they received a Diploma from the President of Sri Lanka; Malta, where their president attended the performance.

Once, Olga Lepeshinskaya, the Great Russian ballerina, came specifically to see the new contemporary ballet “Juno and Avos”, and when she wrote the review, she said that  today’s younger generation of Ballerina’s really need to attend a performance by the Emelianov Dance Company to experience such performances, and such energy!

It is difficult to calculate the number of people, who visited performances by the Russian Modern Ballet – “Emelianov Dance Company”. But since its foundation, the company has given more than 1000 performances!!!

Anatoly Emelianov, was born in Russia. He graduated from the Perm State Choreography University in 1991, and started his career at the Opera and Ballet Theater in Nizhny Novgorod. He has also worked as principal dancer with the Moscow Children’s Music Theater of Natalia Sats, the Moscow Festival Ballet of Sergey Radchenko, The Moscow City Ballet of Victor Smirnov-Golovanov and the Metropolitan Classical Ballet of Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov in the USA. In 2001, he graduated from the faculty of choreography of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS). He has also danced with Moscow Ballet since its premier U.S. season eleven years ago and choreographed children’s roles for Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. At present he is Artistic director and choreographer of Russian Modern Ballet – “Emelianov Dance Company”.

As a dancer, Anatoly’s repertory includes lead roles in Cinderella, Nutcracker, Giselle, The Creation of World, Don Quixote, Giselle, Swan Lake, Spartacus, Naiad and the Fisherman, The Little Prince, Juno and Avos, Day leaves from the Earth, Yesenin and Isadora, The Captain’s Daughter, The Blue Bird, Scarlet Sails, Gypsy Airs, Carmen, Paganini, The Prodigal Son, Sleeping Beauty, Martin Luther, Kursk Songs, Tristan and Isolde, Daphnis and Chloe, Time, Vasilisa, Bolero, Manfred, Francheska da Rimini.

Anatoly’s own productions are “Romeo and Juliet” and “Daylight Leaves the Earth” by Tchaikovsky’s music, the original version of the “Nutcracker” and “Cinderella”, “Carmen” by Biset and Schedrin’s music, “Cross Winds” by Chopin, Gypsy Motives based on folk songs, “Juno and Avos” to the Russian rock opera by A. Rybnikov, “Esenin and Aysedora” to pieces by Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Schnittke and Prokofiev, “Snow White and Seven Dwarves” by Pavlovskiy music, “Martin Luther” by Bach, Handel, Raveland the 17th century music, “Kursk Songs” by Sviridov’s and Stravinsky’s music, “Tristan and Isolde” to the pieces by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mahler and Barber, “The Time” by Part, “Vasilisa” by Rakhmaninov, “Sleeping Beauty” by Tchaykovsky, “Bolero” by M. Ravel and “Polovetzian Dance” by A.
